For a rock climber, the first real glimpse of the valley is a shock.  It reels not only the brain, but the very fiber of one's existance.  The towers, walls and spires are gargantuan fortesses of stone that loom over the narrow, pine-choked valley floor.  Immense sweeps of granite every where the eye turns.
